A few things that I am interested in:
- The differences between the industrially made and the hand made, and the consequences of these two approaches on the environment in which we live.
- How my body relates to the physical activity of metalsmithing, the noise, smells, touch and movement of my practice.
- How metal responds not just to hammer and fire in a physical sense, but it's ability to communicate it's responses to the processes of smithing.
- Humanity has been in partnership with metal since the beginning of civilisation. How much has metal shaped our lives? What would our life be like without it?
- Within jewellery making and silversmithing women are now respected and are well represented, though within the field of blacksmithing there seems to be a divide. Is there a barrier and what is it?
- Is the romantic idea of the metalsmith (especially the blacksmith) as the master in his studio or at the forge agonising over his work still relevant today? Are there ways that I can test this?
My past work can be viewed on my website.
