I have recently discovered
Cal Lane who uses a plasma cutter to make lacy pieces. They are exquisite! I suspect that her plasma cutter is a machine that was used before laser cutters, not like my clunky hand held model. If not I have a long way to go in my technique. Cal's web site shows dirt lace sculptures, beautifully lacy I bars and car parts. She seems to enjoy the tension between masculine and feminine within her work, as well as using her techniques for political comment.

The shovel image is from a book, a catalogue of works for a traveling international show, called
Subversive Knitting Radical Lace. From what I have seen I am going to have to get it at some stage.
